Citius Mag is a welcome new addition to the landscape: Oregon track & field rundown

A few years back, when Chris Chavez was a college student, I tried to get him an internship at The Oregonian.

He impressed me as talented, bright, personable and someone with a great future in the business if he didn't become discouraged about the future of the business itself.

I failed to get him the internship, which tells you something about my pull with my employer.

But Chavez was on to bigger and better things anyway.

He helped cover the 2016 Summer Olympics for Sports Illustrated and now has launched Citius Mag, a welcome addition to the media outlets regularly covering track and field and running.

Chavez has lined up an excellent group of contributors. Early indications are it will be a site to which fans of the sport should pay attention.

Here is Citius Mag's welcome to the world.

And here are a couple of strong early offerings:

-- Stephen Kersh of Citius: LetsRun.com isn't necessarily the hero we want, but it seems to be the hero we need.

-- Meet the college runner from Seaside who followed through on a Twitter pledge to Matthew Centrowitz by getting a Centro tattoo.
