NFL Mock Draft 2017: Jets will take this inexperienced cornerback, says Todd McShay

Todd McShay, an NFL Draft analyst for ESPN, has published his latest mock draft. And from a Jets perspective, it looks like the mock draft his pal Mel Kiper Jr. recently did.

This is McShay's second mock draft. In his first, back in December, he had the Jets taking Alabama outside linebacker Tim Williams at No. 6.

3 questions Jets must answer this offseason

Now, that projection has changed to Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore -- the same projection Kiper made in his only mock draft so far.

Why does McShay like Lattimore to the Jets at No. 6?

Allow him to explain:

Lattimore has elite cover skills and good length/size (6-0, 192). He has only one year of starting experience, but he showed good ball production, recording four interceptions and nine pass breakups. Darrelle Revis could be gone or could switch to safety, which would heighten the need for a naturally gifted cover-corner like Lattimore.

Fair points all. Lattimore is inexperienced, as a third-year sophomore entering the draft, and did have issues with injuries at times in college.

But it's not like Kiper and McShay are the only analysts projecting the Jets to draft Lattimore. CBSSports.com's Dane Brugler also did it in a recent mock draft. Which means ... nothing, really. But it is interesting barstool fodder leading up to the draft.

This is considered a deep cornerback draft class, so should the Jets wait until Round 2 to get a corner and draft someone like Ohio State safety Malik Hooker at No. 6? That's one school of thought. (McShay has Hooker going seventh to the Chargers in his latest mock draft.)

8 Jets who should be gone in 2017

To get a sense of who isn't available for the Jets in McShay's mock draft, here is his top five:

1. Browns: DE/OLB Myles Garrett

2. 49ers: QB Deshaun Watson

3. Bears: DE Jonathan Allen

4. Jaguars: S Jamal Adams

5. Titans (via Rams): WR Corey Davis
