FRANKLIN TWP. - A Ringoes resident was charged with DWI after a recent hit-and-run accident in the township, police said.

The driver of a Mini Cooper with damage to its driver's side told Officer Kevin Richards on Jan. 18 that their vehicle was struck by a grey Toyota pickup that fled the scene, police said.

Clinton Police Department Patrolman Peter Tilstra stopped the pickup a short time later, and both he and Richards saw damage to the rear of the passenger's side of the Toyota. The driver, Patrick Yancey, was believed to be too intoxicated to drive, police said.

Police found 12 empty beer bottles and marijuana inside the pickup. Yancey was arrested and charged with DWI and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, police said.

He was released to a friend pending a future court date.

While investigating a second accident on Jan. 20, Richards arrested Jason Belay of Blue Bell, Pa., charging him with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, police said.

Richards made the arrest after responding to an accident on Pittstown Road near the eastbound Interstate 78 on-ramp and finding marijuana inside Belay's vehicle, police said.

Belay was released pending a future court appearance, police said.
