No one hurt, but 4 displaced after Phillipsburg fire

Four people are temporarily homeless after a fire ripped through the second floor of a Phillipsburg home on Thursday morning.

None of the four were home when authorities found flames pouring through a rear window about 8:45 a.m. at 60 Lewis St. and no injuries were reported, town fire Chief Rich Hay said in an afternoon news release.

About 45 town firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, he said.

The fire started on the second floor, where it was contained, Hay said. The rest of the building sustained damage from heat, smoke and water, but the chief said the structure is insured and the damage is repairable.

In the meantime, the four occupants are being assisted by the Morris County chapter of the American Red Cross.

The building is owned by Richard Morrison Jr., of Flemington, the fire chief said.

The Warren County Fire Marshal and Phillipsburg police are investigating the cause.
