If Israelis want to defend ir country, y are retorting those who claim that Israel is not a democracy, quite proud that, after all, a former president, Moshe Katzav, is sitting in prison for sexual harassment. Or until recently, also former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for corruption. And even one or or minister had already landed in prison for bribery in past.

A certainly somewhat abstruse answer, but it actually shows that judiciary in Israel does not shy away from highest dignitaries and politicians when it comes to investigating and also penalising criminal wrongdoing. The legal bodies in Israel have ir hands full. Because corruption in small country is flourishing. Politics and economy and, more recently, military may seem to have been deeply entangled in bribery, fraud and corruption.

For months, Israelis have been spellbound, as authorities have been investigating against ir Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And that in four cases. After public prosecutor's office from "preliminary investigations" has now made "investigations of criminal activities", it seems that Prime Minister is beginning to narrow down.

The supervisory authority of ongoing investigations is borne by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, cases are called 1000, 2000, 3000 and recently also 4000. In all four cases, Netanyahu appears to be involved.

    Netanyahu fight against media

The case 1000: Netanyahu and his wife Sara are accused of having adopted two persons cigars, whiskey and jewelry worth several hundred thousand Israeli shekels (over 20,000 euros). One of benefactors is Hollywood producer and billionaire Arnon Milchan. Milchan does not deny that Netanyahu has made gifts. But for se gifts, Netanyahu is said to have shown himself to be binding. Milchan wanted to buy shares in private Israeli Channel 2 TV channel. In negotiations, Bibi, as Israelis call ir prime minister, has even been re. For cartel reasons, new legal bases should have been created for purchase.

Netanyahu, it is suspected to have had great interest in deal, would have allowed him great influence on broadcaster. For years, Netanyahu has been fighting media, especially against broadcasters and newspapers that are facing him with investigative journalism and criticism. The deal did not come about because or partners of channel were against it.

The case 2000: Ari Sakharov, Bibi's former head of executive, has taken meetings and talks between Netanyahu and publisher Arnon Moses. Moses, who belongs to most important Israeli daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, is a vehement opponent of Netanyahu. His hand is accordingly critical of Prime Minister's policy. But Yedioth suffers from severe circulation loss since American billionaire and Netanyahu friend Sheldon Adelson brought newspaper Israel HaYom to Israeli market. The paper is free and has long been regarded as prime minister's mouthpiece. Especially poorer Israelis are wondering what y should spend every day on Yedioth if y can get Israel HaYom for free.

The tapes of Ari Sakharov are proven to prove that Netanyahu has proposed a deal: Yedioth should better report on him, but he, Bibi, will make sure that Israel HaYom no longer plays such a big role in market. As with 1000 case, nothing has become of plans in this case eir.
