CSU: Upper limit to be politically persecuted

The signs of a softening of the CSU position are increasing: there is no limit to the number of persons who are entitled to asylum according to the Basic Law, says domestic politician Stephan Mayer.

CSU: Upper limit to be politically persecuted

Before summit of leaders of CDU and CSU on Sunday in Berlin, Christian Social has clarified ir plans for an upper limit for refugees. "The CSU has never been concerned about setting a ceiling for those who are actually entitled to asylum," said internal affairs spokesman of unions Bundestagsfraktion, Stephan Mayer (CSU), Passauer Neue Presse. Finally, "less than one percent of applicants ultimately received asylum for political persecution under article 16a of Basic Law".

Much more decisive, according to Mayer, is " vast majority that is recognised as a refugee by Geneva Refugee Convention or who receives a temporary residence permit, for example, as a civil war refugee". Mayer also called for an even more effective limitation of illegal migration. This includes, in addition to furr suspension of family retreats, "also creation of facilities in borders where all those without identity papers remain until ir identity is clearly clarified, and stronger European approximation of Social assistance to refugees '.

CSU top candidate Joachim Herrmann told world he insist not on word upper limit. "It's about political goal and tangible results, not about terminology." The question, however, is "how else is guaranteed, what is stated in Joint Electoral programme of CDU and CSU: that numbers of refugees should be kept at a lower level". Herrmann, too, had already said this week that politically persecuted would not fall under ceiling.

A ceiling for refugees is one of main points of controversy in forthcoming talks on a government formation. The CSU is only party that calls for such a border. FDP, Greens and CDU reject such a measure. However, CSU's last signals are piling up, neir on term nor on a certain number.

In face of conservative dispute, green negotiator Jürgen Trittin expressed scepticism about formation of a Jamaica coalition. The Union was "apparently unable to act" after its election defeat, said Trittin funk media Group.
