Thousands of Palestinians have demonstrated in Gaza on the border with Israel. The Israeli military responded with a large contingent.

Thousands of Palestinians protested in Gaza on border with Israel. This resulted in clashes with Israeli security forces, in which several people were killed according to Palestinian information. The Ministry of Health in Gaza spoke of 14 deaths and more than 1,000 injured. Most of m were thus wounded by tear gas. According to Israeli army, only people who had attacked border fence were shot. Two of dead were agents of radical Islamic Hamas.

The Israeli military wrote on Twitter that about 17,000 Palestinians protested at five different places in Gaza Strip. "The rioters roll burning wheels and hurl incendiary bombs and stones against security fence and Israeli troops." The Israeli soldiers reacted by dispersing protests and firing on ringleaders, it was said. In north of Gaza Strip, terrorists were also trying to cross fence, army wrote on Twitter. The army shot m out of tanks.

The Israeli military urged people of Gaza to stay away from security fence. The radical Islamic Hamas, which reigns in Gaza Strip, exploits women and children by sending m to security fence to demonstrate re. Ors would be instigated to climb fence. On Twitter, military reported on case of a seven-year-old girl who had been sent by Hamas over fence. The army brought child back to his parents. Besides, terrorists would have tried to cross fence, army wrote on Twitter.

Hamas had called for protests under motto "March of Return". The protests are supposed to last until May 15th. On this day, celebrations for 70th anniversary of formation of state will take place in Israel. On same day, Hamas commits so-called Nakba day. On this "day of disaster" Palestinians remember ir escape or expulsion during 1948 war. Hamas does not recognize Israel's existence. It calls for Palestinian refugees and ir descendants to be allowed to return to Israeli territory. Israel rejects it.

Sniper on Border Posted

Even before protests began, Israeli soldiers had, according to Palestinian claims, shot a Palestinian who had approached border fence. The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that a 27-year-old farmer was killed near Chan in June in south of Palestinian territory by artillery bombardment. Anor farmer was thus injured. The Israeli army told incident that a tank had opened fire at night on two suspects who would have approached security fence in sourn part of coastal zone.

Israel's defense minister, Avigdor Lieberman, had warned Palestinians in advance of approaching border fence. "Anyone who approaches fence risks his life," wrote Lieberman on Twitter in Arabic. According to a report by Israeli news site Ynet, Israel's army had already posted over 100 snipers near border before protests. According to military, number of troops on border with Gaza Strip was doubled. Israel's military spokesman, Ronen Manelis, said before protests that Israel wanted to avoid violence. However, military would not allow quantities to damage fence by would collapse or military facilities.
