The nuclear fever is rising

A Nobel Peace Prize F ü R the anti-nuclear campaign Ican ä does not change anything: The bomb is in the world and it will remain. Politics and diplomacy have enough experience to deal with it. But US PR ä President Trump ignores the teachings of history.

The nuclear fever is rising

It is as old as humanity itself, question: How can war be best avoided-by many weapons, or by no weapons at all? The answer is close: by abolition of all weapons and activation of reason. The reality, however, tells of opposite: reason is not language of peoples, which is why experience teaches that it is not attacked, who knows how to defend oneself. And because under all weapons atomic bomb is most terrifying, it offers an invaluable value in logic of war and deterrence: it seems invulnerable and at same time serves as a means of intimidation.

This argument emerged from logic of nuclear parity and Zweitschlagsdoktrin. Parity means that if two mistrust, but have same number of warheads, a balance of threat arises. No one can attack or without risking ir own destruction.

But this logic has only existed if it is followed by a very limited number of rational actors-and if all or hasard of yours in human drama of war and Peace is denied access to ultimate weapon. Thirty years after nuclear armaments in Cold War, two variables have now shifted in deterrence equation: There are too many hasard and re are not enough rational actors. That is why nuclear threat is back in North Korea, in minds of strategists all over world.

The real message in this undiscovered piece is refore not that disarmament activists have received Nobel Peace Prize. The real news is that American president just at same moment tramples and destroys only way to curb nuclear threat. The keeper of one of largest nuclear arsenals in world ignores in a dangerous moment of history all lessons of past and drives sheers of a with his power. Instead of employing America's negotiating power with aim of a nuclear balance and a reduction in arsenals, he is breaking nuclear agreement with Iran, sending a devastating message to world: president of White House itself is irrational actor, It is gambler to be protected.

The Atomdeal with Iran is a not perfect but remarkable product of tough state art. It provides blueprint for or arms control arrangements. Because re is only this middle ground between high armament and uncompromising disarmament: negotiations, contracts, deals. If se negotiations are successful, n re is also a pleasing by-product: trust. Only in this way could Cold War end, for example, Germany could reconcile with its neighbors.

Trump's dangerous unpredictability doesn't have to end in disaster. The US Congress still has chance to preserve nuclear agreement, reby reducing nuclear fever that has not only instilled Iran or North Korea. Robert Oppenheimer, to whom mankind owes bomb, once said that physicists had learned what sin was, "and this knowledge will never completely abandon m." The bomb is in world, and it will remain in world. But re is also a wealth of experience in dealing with danger. A Nobel Prize cannot compensate for what is being wasted by this treasure.
