Abortion: lives changed in minutes

A Texas abortion clinic needed just 12 minutes to end abortions on Friday after the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade who had been protecting the right to abortion since 1973 in the United States.

The Houston Women's Reproductive Services clinic's quick decision surprised many as women waited in the clinic to get abortions, The Washington Post reported.

"It's over," clinic co-owner Kathy Kleinfeld said when asked if the facility would continue to perform abortions.

A long silence followed among the employees who received the directive.

Kathy Kleinfeld then met with the women individually. The sound of crying did not cease to be heard thereafter. A Mississippi woman had even walked a few hundred miles on Friday morning, hoping to put her pregnancy behind her.

A 25-year-old single mother confided in the Washington Post. She was on her way when she got the call from the clinic to tell her the news. The five-week-pregnant lady burst into tears.

"At five weeks pregnant, there is no heartbeat, yet my rights have just been taken away from me," she said.

The single mother who lives “paycheck to paycheck” will struggle to afford travel costs, since she will have to travel to a state where she can legally have an abortion.

The clinic phone hasn't stopped ringing all day. To such an extent that the co-owner of the establishment recorded a message explaining the consequences of the reversal of the Roe c. Wade.

“We hope you will remember this when it comes time to vote in the election,” added Kathy Kleinfeld at the end of the message.
