I want my passport, good!

How can a G7 country lose control over the management of its passports? How can an international leader like Canada justify that citizens are forced to sleep outside to receive a document that is rightfully theirs?.

I want my passport, good!

How can a G7 country lose control over the management of its passports? How can an international leader like Canada justify that citizens are forced to sleep outside to receive a document that is rightfully theirs?

Are the interminable delays to receive a passport really the scandal that is claimed?

Selfishness, when you hold me

The only reason why we are scandalized by the treatment of Canadians waiting for passports is that we mistreat privileged people who take their privileges for granted.

Yes, their privileges.

And don't tell me about people who travel for "essential reasons".

A passport is a fundamental part of citizenship, but receiving it quickly is just one more privilege that we confuse with rights.

I can no longer hear that a self-respecting country does not let its citizens sleep outside to obtain a public service.

I, me, me, me, me

But when citizens have to live in makeshift camps on rue Notre-Dame, that doesn't matter. The only reason we complain about it is that it's a fire hazard, it's ugly and it stinks.

Not because it is inhumane, unacceptable and despicable not to house our most vulnerable.

Not because we consider hungry Canadians to be outrageous.

If we bawl because we don't have access to a toilet in the line to get a passport, it's just because it affects us directly, in our little comfort and our privilege.

When a homeless person dies frozen under an overpass, we don't care, we didn't know him.

When boil water advisories are renewed continuously for 14 years, who cares, we have water to fill our above ground pools.

But to obtain a passport without delay, ah, that! That is important.
