JERSEY CITY - A sex offender has been charged with exposing and touching himself outside a Jersey City elementary school in the presence of children -- thanks to a quick-thinking girl who snapped a photo of him.

Michael K. Singleton, of the 100 block of Seaview Avenue, was arrested Wednesday and charged with lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child, the criminal complaint says.

After the incident, Jersey City police emailed Singleton's picture to all officers and one officer was able to identify him and provide his name and address, the complaint says.

The criminal complaint said that police also had surveillance footage of Singleton and the complaint also noted that the victim was a stranger to the defendant. It did not say where the incident occurred.

Singleton is listed in the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry, which says he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in 2006.
