Britain has a clear idea of what EU trade relations should look like: London wants to find the best out of everything. The EU is not very enthusiastic.

For Theresa May, everything is quite simple: British want to conclude with EU most comprehensive free trade agreement in world, while enjoying freedom to get best out of ir own country's industry. "If this is referred to as raisin pecking, n that is so," said British prime Minister at beginning of week. But n every or free trade agreement is also picking raisins.

The EU has now made it clear that this is not going to be case. The concept proposed by British was completely excluded, said EU Council President Donald Tusk. The British would have to adapt to a normal free trade agreement that does not contain financial services. "It will be first free trade agreement in world that will result in weaker commercial relations," said Tusk. "We will evolve from each or."

But what exactly is it about? After EU exit, United Kingdom presents itself with a trade agreement with Union, which, roughly speaking, is based on three levels:

    1. Full Market access

In goods trade, British government is seeking full access to EU's internal market. In or words, London is ready to adopt all EU regulations and regulations – both today and in future. A similar regulation already exists between EU and Switzerland. However, it requires Switzerland to permanently adapt its laws and regulations to EU. The bureaucratic effort is large and costs are high. In opinion of European Parliament, however, customs controls would still be necessary, since it would have to be checked wher rules were complied with.

In pharmaceutical and chemical industries as well as in aircraft construction, UK would like to be involved in relevant EU agencies (European Chemicals Agency and REACH, European Medicines Agency and European Aviation Safety Agency EASA), pay for m and Get a say. Donald Tusk rejects it. Or third countries also have no such access, EU Council president argues. The EU has so far only concluded cooperation agreements with a view to EU agencies, which are temporary. For example, Switzerland has found a corresponding agreement with EU. The country must pay access to market and has no voting rights. The EU is also regularly examining wher Switzerland complies with all rules. If it does not, Brussels can intervene unilaterally and restrict market access.

    2. Complete exit from internal market

In fisheries, British want to leave EU single market completely. They feel unfairly treated and do not want to share fish stocks in ir waters with or states over established EU quotas. The hope is that British will be negotiating a new agreement with EU to negotiate higher quotas for ir own fishing fleet, similar to Norway.

In EU's agricultural policy, too, British want to make a difference, among or things, to allocate subsidies to farmers differently than EU rules dictate. According to EU rules, subsidies are distributed according to size of agricultural area. But in Britain this leads to fact that some large landowners are becoming richer and at same time many small farmers are getting too short.

But if British still want to sell ir food in EU, y must comply with all rules on quality and safety of agricultural products. However, if British are to assure this, y still need border controls to verify compliance. This is difficult on border between Ireland and Norrn Ireland. Here, 1998 peace Agreement provides for a green border without controls.
