OTTAWA, ON, Oct. 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- The Royal Canadian Mint is pleased to be recognized, along with the Central Bank of Barbados, for the glow-in-the-dark $1 Flying Fish circulation coin that has been crowned the best commemorative or proof coin in circulation at the International Association for Monetary Affairs (IACA) Coin Excellence Awards 2022. Issued in honor of the Bajan frontline workers who helped the nation through the COVID-19 pandemic, this stamp-printed color circulation coin was enhanced with the Mint's own photo-luminescent technology. This application symbolizes the light of hope that breaks through the shadow of adversity. The IACA award, for the first application of phosphorescent color on a non-Canadian coin, was officially launched today at the 2022 Coin Conference in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
