Cartagena, December 11, 2023.- Web accessibility, essential to guarantee that all users, regardless of their abilities, can interact effectively with digital sites, has become a priority in Spain. Both public institutions and many private companies have mandatory web accessibility as a requirement. While it can be complex to understand what web accessibility is and how to implement it on a site, the presence of ADDAW and its solutions are making it easier not only to comply with the law, but also to provide equal access to online content. In addition, ADDAW promotes awareness campaigns among educational institutions on how to create accessible content for the different types of dyslexia that a teacher may encounter in their classroom.

Web accessibility refers to the practice of designing and developing websites so that all users, including those with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive disabilities, can access and use information effectively. This fundamental principle seeks to comply with legal regulations, as well as enrich the online experience for each individual.

Current legislation, such as Law 56/2007 on Measures to Promote the Information Society (LISI), clearly establishes that web accessibility is now mandatory for many companies in the country. This involves meeting at least level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), a series of internationally recognized guidelines. This regulation establishes the need to design digital interfaces that are understandable, navigable and operable for everyone, including people with some type of disability.

The obligation to comply with accessibility standards applies especially to public institutions and companies that provide services to the general public with more than 100 employees or with a turnover of more than 6 million euros, since they are considered of special economic significance. The criteria covers various sectors, from financial services and retail trade, to water supply companies, electrical energy and travel agencies, among others.

However, complying with web accessibility regulations is not only a legal obligation, it also represents a significant opportunity to reach a broader audience. In addition to facilitating digital inclusion, adapting websites to accessible standards expands the reach of businesses to a diverse audience and improves the user experience for everyone.

With the increasing importance of online presence and digitalization, web accessibility has become an integral part of responsible and sustainable business strategy. With the help of the Association for the Defense of the Right to Web Accessibility (ADDAW) and its specialized services, companies can adapt to the regulations and ensure that their interface is accessible.

ADDAW conducts web accessibility audits and provides consulting services to promote a more accessible digital environment. Its services include WCAG 2.2 A/AA/AAA Audits, using manual actions and artificial intelligence, as well as legal support and compliance testing with the WCAG-EM methodology, and website certification.

From identifying issues to implementing solutions, ADDAW offers assistance and support committed to ensuring businesses not only comply with regulations but also deliver an inclusive digital experience.
