UNHCR camp: Germany delays reception of refugees

Chancellor Merkel has pledged to the UN refugee organization to participate in the resettlement of refugees. Yet, according to a report, nothing is moving.

UNHCR camp: Germany delays reception of refugees

For 2018, Germany has so far not offered a place for refugees from camps of UN refugee UNHCR. Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) had promised UN in mid 2017 a total of 40,000 so-called resettlement places in Europe. A concrete reception of people from camps in North Africa or Middle East, however, has so far been taken "no decision", says federal government's response to a green question, from which Rheinische Post quoted.

From promised reception places Germany wanted to take over proportion corresponding to its size. According to report, German application should have been made by October. Anor deadline expires in February.

For 2018, Green MEP Luise Amtsberg criticized Rheinische post for "a zero number in important resettlement incorporation" because of sluggish formation of government. France has already registered a good 10,000 places for refugees from UNHCR camps, Britain barely 8,000 and Sweden 8,750.
