Jordan Burroughs, U.S. Wrestling to compete in Iran after ban lifted

It looks like Jordan Burroughs and the United States wrestling team will be traveling to Iran to compete in the 2017 World Cup after all, according to the Associated Press.

The World Cup is scheduled to take place in Kermanshah, Iran from Feb. 16-17.

Iran banned the United States from the competition as a response to new United States President Donald Trump's travel ban which restricted people from seven countries, including Iran, from entering the United States. A federal judge in Seattle halted enforcement of the ban on Friday, which led Iran to rescind its decision to keep the United States from the competition

The World Cup is expected to be the return to competition for Burroughs, who hasn't competed since losing twice and failing to medal at the Olympic Games in Rio this past August.

Burroughs came into the competition as the favorite after winning a 74 kg gold medal at the 2012 games in London. Burroughs is also a three-time World Champion.

A graduate of Winslow Township High School, Burroughs won a New Jersey state championship before going on to Nebraska, where he became a two-time NCAA champion. He then went on to become the face of U.S. wrestling and has lost just four times on the senior level, including twice in one day at Rio.

The 28-year-old Burroughs took time off after his rare failure and is ready to resume his career with an eye on the 2020 Olympic Games.
