Unlike the Earth, Mars is not protected from UV rays by a layer of ozone : it is so widely exposed to radiation death of the sun. The pressure is only 6 hPa, 150 times less than that of the Earth.

What is the average temperature on Mars ?

The average temperature of Mars is of -53°C, but the differences can reach over 50°C between day and night. To top it all off, a violent sand storms sweep the surface regularly, and may change the climate in a significant way. During a storm, observed in July 2001, the temperature of the atmosphere has jumped from 30°C !

However, March has not always been this hell frozen. Originally, she had to have an atmosphere that is quite close to that of the Earth four billion years ago, which is composed of light gases (helium and hydrogen). But its weak gravity could not hold back, and the gas escaped into space. Just a billion years after its formation, it was already almost nothing of the martian atmosphere.

Is there life on Mars ?

there is looking for more little green men, but scientists continue to speculate on the presence of a form of life, past or present, on Mars. Where's the research ?

If the fresh water a day is cast on the surface of Mars, it is, in all cases disappeared for a long time : at least 3.8 billion years. Today, the water can only be locked in the basement, under three possible forms : bound to minerals such as clay, contained in the cracks in a cliff face, or in pockets of ice at the poles. On Earth, life was first seen in the water : this is why the question of the presence or not of water on Mars, is fundamental to the exobiologistes.

Nasa announced in September 2015 to have discovered the presence of liquid water on Mars, but not drinking, sip of salts called perchlorates, appearing in the summer and disappearing in the winter. But the discoveries don't stop there : in this month of September 2020, the Italian scientists have discovered the existence of three lakes at the edge of the south pole of Mars, by the Mars Express probe of the european space Agency (ESA). The discovery of these researchers from the University of Roma Tre in Italy, complements that of 2018, when the first underground tank had been discovered by this program MARSIS. They are no less than four lakes, underground water, which occupy March.
