Journalists of time, time online and the NDR have been awarded for a joint search. This was probably the biggest tax fraud in Germany's history.

Tax fraud: Sperm-ex-Recherche awarded by Helmut Schmidt Journalist Award

A research team of time online, time and ARD magazine Panorama won second place at Helmut Schmidt journalist Award. The research was awarded to sperm-ex-tax scandal, which was published in time and on time online under title of Big tax robbery in June. Panorama showed film billions from Treasury – on trail of tax thieves.

The team had investigated how banks, stockbrokers and lawyers could succeed in facilitating state in arguably largest tax fraud in history of Federal Republic by billions. And why politicians and authorities could not stop hustle and bustle for over 25 years. In September, research had already received German journalist award.

Since 1996, Helmut Schmidt Journalist Award has been awarded annually for special services in area of consumer-friendly reporting on economic and financial issues. The first three places receive 15,000, 10,000 and 5,000 euro prize money donated by bank ING-Diba.

Till Krause and Hannes Grassegger reached first place this year for ir reportage inside Facebook, published in magazine of Süddeutsche Zeitung. The NDR research team of Jasmin Klofta, Svea Eckert and Jan Lukas Strozyk won third prize for posting nude on net: millions of users spied. Also third prize was given to Karsten Krogmann from northwest newspaper for withdrawn – history of Ewe crisis.

In addition, a junior prize for journalists up to 30 years was awarded, which is endowed with 5,000 Euro prize money. The award was given to Vanessa Vu and Caroline Wiemann for foreclosure 4.0 – a data research on how EU is equipping its external borders with high-tech systems. The post was published in Friday. Vu now works online as an editor at time.
