The police have stopped a Kurdish march in Düsseldorf and arrested several participants. Triggers were images of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.

At a Kurdish demonstration in Düsseldorf, re have been violent clashes between participants and police. Many demonstrators were waving flags banned by police with image of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. Even after multiple calls by police, corresponding flags were not rolled in, said a spokeswoman.

When march was stopped, forces with objects were pelteded and attacked with Flagpoles. The cops put on pepper spray, nine demonstrators were detained temporarily. According to police, twelve officials and at least three demonstrators were injured in operation.

The PKK fights in souast of Turkey for more autonomy of Kurds living re. It has long been classified as a terrorist organisation in Germany, EU and Turkey.
