According to media reports, the SPD plans to make the mayor of Berlin-Neukölln the minister. The East German national associations had agreed on this.

The mayor of Berlin district of Neukölln, Franziska Giffey, will be in a new grand coalition according to information from German press Agency and Daily Spiegel federal minister. The East German SPD national associations had agreed on this.

Previously, SPD had made it clear that one of six ministerial posts to which it was due was to be occupied with a person from East Germany. Giffey comes from Frankfurt (or). It is now being traded for family or work/social affairs departments. On Friday SPD leaders will officially announce ir list of ministers.

The East German SPD associations insist on a representation in new cabinet in order to strengn weight of party in east again. The AfD has overhauled SPD re in many regions. Besides Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), Union does not send anyone from East Germany to federal cabinet.

Giffey himself did not want to comment on a possible ministerial post. The question of wher she will be a minister can "not answer", she said on verge of a school event.

With more than 300,000 inhabitants, Neukölln is considered one of most well-known problem areas in Germany. There are many people from Hartz IV services, almost half of m have a migrant background. The 39-year-old Giffey made a name for herself re as a successor to her comrade Heinz Buschkowsky, among ors with clear positions in integration policy.

The designated SPD Chairwoman Andrea Nahles met in afternoon with leaders of Union in chancellery. The round at CDU leader Merkel met with confidence. On Thursday Giffey will be attending an event in Berlin on occasion of International Women's Day toger with Nahles.

Some consider Giffey to be too conservative

Giffeys remarks sometimes remind ir mentor Buschkowsky, for example, when at a naturalization ceremony y call on newcomers not to simply drop trash somewhere: "If all of this were to keep in Neukölln, we would save many millions." Giffey is also annoyed if you do not want to give hand to Muslims because she is a woman. Giffey himself originally wanted to become a teacher, but n proposed an administrative career. For three years she is district mayor of Neukölln – district is comparable to a German city.
