Kim Jong-un might have liked it: a great banquet in his honor. China's most powerful politicians were re. Among m XI Jinping, China's now almost almighty president and chief of Communist Party, Premier Li Keqiang, China's gray eminence Wang Qishan and many or important Politbüromitglieder. It was an unofficial visit – but government in Beijing has made a great reception of it for North Korea's dictator.

For young Kim Jong-un it was first visit abroad since he took over dictatorship in 2011 after death of his far Kim Jong Il. His regime is internationally isolated because of illegal nuclear and missile programme and only People's Republic of China is still halfway to it. The last state visit between two countries was thirteen years ago, and in 2005, head of State and party Hu Jintao was in Pyongyang with Kim's far. So why just now this meeting?

For China's government, main concern is to show who has say in East Asia. For in dispute over North Korea's banned armament, Regionalhegemon Beijing suddenly threatened to slip away.

    China is back

In face of very tense situation in nuclear dispute, South Korea's liberal president, Moon Jae, had been trying for months in vain for a dialogue with north. At beginning of January 2018, Kim Jong-un responded, which was certainly also due to harsh international sanctions led by United States. As a result, athletes from North and South Korea took part in Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. A short while later, a South Korean diplomat was sent to US president Donald Trump with message that Kim Jong-un was ready for dialogue. Trump immediately jumped on it. It is currently case that Kim Jong-un will meet with South Korean President Moon Jae in April, and presumably in May US President Trump.

China's government has been diplomatically duped in se developments. It's over with Kim visit. China and North Korea conjured up cooperation, called mselves "comrades" and emphasized good old relations of two ruling parties. Grandfar Kim Il Sung had already cooperated with China in a communist relationship. For Kim Jong-un, his first visit to state was refore a small triumph, even though he was acting as a small pupil to China's Head of State XI.

For years he had ignored reminders of Chinese leadership. He had three atomic bombs detonated, and he tested same series of medium and long-range missiles. Perhaps his military has even reached a point where he can upgrade a functional long-range rocket with a suitable nuclear warhead. Such a missile could reach American mainland.

All very much to displeasure of neighbor. In China, too, no one wants to have anor neighbor with nuclear missiles. Moreover, Kim could also oretically judge his weapons against China. Neverless, China is still a kind of protector for dictatorship in North Korea, which has been led by Kim's family for three generations. It wants to see a stable border with impoverished North Korea and an appropriately stable regime re. The fact that a state disintegration could bring South Korea and, in wake, American troops to Chinese border, at least for older generation in Communist leadership, is an unbearable thought. And a mass exodus of North Koreans in direction of China does not want to be in Beijing eir.
