Every week, on Thursday evening live, four professional singers will try to seduce the public by pushing the note in a large-scale number. Their goal will be to conquer the 100 people in the room, who will be divided into four generations. The performers will not only have to sing well, which they all already do, but we will also judge the staging and arrangements of each of the numbers.

Normand Brathwaite will be the captain of the boomers, Élyse Marquis of the X, Félix-Antoine Tremblay of the Y and Claudia Bouvette of the Z. As spokesperson, they will have to share the comments and appreciations of their group, without forgetting the score awarded to each artist after their performance.

“We wanted people who know how to express themselves quickly – we are going to be live – we want repartee, we want “fun”, we want people who know music, varieties, who are able to identify what works well in a number, what works less well. People who are able to have a close relationship with the public, ”summarized Véronique Cloutier during a zoom round table that she moderated on Monday morning.

Élyse Marquis and Félix-Antoine Tremblay took part in early trials with singers and audiences, with feedback used to refine the variety show. A pilot will be shot before the start of the season, during which 24 artists will compete. Of course, we have to wait before revealing them.

“We are moving forward, our decor, our musical theme, obviously our concept that we had the pleasure of developing for a year and a half. […] It is an incredible privilege to have so much time to develop a program,” said Véronique Cloutier. The captains were just added during this delay.

The show was to be launched before Véronique Cloutier finally hosts a fifth season of “1st time”, the pandemic and the sanitary measures having ordered the postponement of the project which implies the presence of many people in the same place.

Produced by KOTV, the “Zénith” musical competition is in the process of recruiting 100 members of the public, i.e. 25 people from each generation. We would like, in the best of all worlds, for them to be able to come back week after week, so for them to be available every Thursday, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., from January 19 to April 13, 2023. The live recordings will take place at Pointe-Saint-Charles, in Montreal. Registration or information: Radio-Canada.ca/zenith.

The “Zénith” program will be broadcast live every Thursday from January 2023 on ICI Télé.
