A man in his 40s was in critical condition on Saturday evening after being fished out after several minutes underwater following a dive at the Lac Sablon beach in Saint-Polycarpe, in Monteregie.

The event occurred around 4 p.m. when the man dived into the artificial lake from a platform, said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Stéphane Tremblay.

While he did not rise to the surface, people located him in the water and brought him back to dry land, before carrying out resuscitation maneuvers. The victim has since been transported to a hospital where she was in critical condition that evening.

Forensic identification technicians went to the scene to try to understand the causes and circumstances of the event. The stage had been lifted in the evening.
