Series of flights on Myrand: the SPVQ ensures to be in action

The Quebec police deny neglecting the concerns of merchants on Myrand Avenue in Quebec City, who have been infuriated by thefts and break-ins in recent months.

The investigation is active and progressing, assured Monday a spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ).

“The investigation is continuing on our side, explained Sandra Dion. Obviously, when there are offenses or [if] there are several offenses that are committed in an area, there is surveillance that will be done, patrol that will be done.

The Journal reported on Sunday that a wave of thefts occurred again in July in at least three establishments, including the KRWN Barbershop, which captured the criminal in action.

For its part, the SPVQ is able to confirm that a file was opened in July and that another is about to be.

The case is taken seriously and reports are handled with attention, we are assured.

In this type of investigation, the police keep a lookout in areas they deem strategic and do not hesitate to collect images from surveillance cameras relevant to their work, says Ms. Dion.

serious concerns

These events follow a first series of burglaries that occurred in May, which raised serious concerns among several traders.

At that time, the SPVQ confirmed that more than a dozen files were open for break-ins and thefts totaling a few thousand dollars in businesses in the area of the commercial street.

We then learned that two suspects, a 50-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, had been arrested by the police after breaking and entering a business on Chemin Sainte-Foy.

Investigators suspected them of being also linked to several thefts in the area of rue Myrand. They were interrogated and then released on a promise to appear.

According to the SPVQ, no other individual has been apprehended since these two arrests.
