UTSA coach Frank Wilson came to the Roadrunners with a sizable reputation as one of the best recruiters in college football.

And it wasn't truly fair to judge him on last year's class, considering he was hired to UTSA only a couple of weeks before National Signing Day.

But his true strength as a recruiter was shown in a statistical piece developed earlier this week by Alex Kirshner of SBNation.com.

Comparing the composite ranking developed by 247 Sports for the 2016 class to 2017, Wilson showed the most recruiting improvement of any of the 26 first-year coaches at thier new schools.

Wilson's 2016 UTSA class ranked 107th nationally. It jumped to 73rd this year for an improvement of 34 spots.

Other familiar names dot the top of the rankings.

Former Steele coach and Texas Tech assistant Mike Jenks improved Bowling Green's rankings from 116th to 86th for an improvement of 30 spots to rank second.

Texas State coach Everett Withers pushed the Bobcats from 110th to 85th for an improvement of 25 to rank fourth.

Top improvement at a Power Five school went to DJ Durkin at Maryland, who bumped the Terrapins from 42nd to 18th for an improvement of 24 to rank fifth.

Georgia Southern's Tyson Summers saw the Golden Eagles show the largest decrease from 73rd to 97th.

Wilson took the Roadrunners from the fourth-worst class in Conference USA in 2016 to the second-best last week.

Stories like these indicate how well he is doing in comparison with the rest of the country and the other coaches who were hired before last season.
