The 26-year-old suspect was scheduled to appear in the afternoon at the Montreal courthouse to answer a murder charge.

The SPVM planned to hold a press conference on Monday to publicly announce the arrest, after more than 16 months of investigation.

Meriem Boudaoui was shot in the head while she was in a parked vehicle on the evening of February 7, 2021.

The investigation clearly demonstrated that she was not the person targeted by this armed attack. The young woman of Algerian origin would have had the misfortune to find herself in the same place, at the wrong time.

She would have died instantly.

The perpetrator fled after the crime and was never found. Various investigative techniques finally allowed SPVM investigators to trace the alleged shooter, who was finally handcuffed, nearly a year and a half after the heinous murder.

The individual, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was already in prison when the investigators went to arrest him. It is not known, however, why he was already behind bars.
