New rifles for Canadian snipers

The Canadian Armed Forces will receive 229 multi-caliber sniper rifles as part of Canada's Sniper Systems Project, as announced Friday by the Department of National Defence.

Sniper rifles allow “direct fire” to be performed with better accuracy than so-called “lighter” weapons. These new rifles will replace previous precision weapons to provide Canadian snipers with a next-generation weapon with a carrying capacity of 1200 meters. These new rifles are expected to be delivered by the end of 2022.

The Canadian Sniper Systems Project provides the Canadian Armed Forces with modern equipment and specialized tools. “Ensuring the Canadian Armed Forces are appropriately equipped is always a top priority. Through the [project], we are providing the Canadian Army with state-of-the-art equipment and ensuring that its members have the resources they need,” said Minister of National Defense Anita Anand.
